The LVP 2023 Summer Show has officially been launched!

Written by Cath Moyse - Tue 18th Apr 2023

As I entered Launton Parish Hall it had the feel of an AA meeting with everyone sitting in a circle, some familiar faces, some new. Julia called us to order by ringing the bell, and then shared the good news of LVP's success at the recent ODN (Oxfordshire Drama Network) awards - four wins plus three runner's up awards for Hickory Dickory Dock. Together with the £7,500 raised for Nai's House, this was definitely a very successful pantomime.

Celia ran through an overview of LVP for the new members, covering a brief history since its inception in 1986, key figures, safeguarding, membership and merchandising.

Then it was time for us to be tested in a quiz. 12 questions on, you guess it, The Weather. I knew I should have revised the Shipping Forecast! However I still managed a respectable 7.5, although that paled into insignificance compared to Sherie's winning score of 10/12.

This summer's show will be raising money for UNICEF and the Bicester Food Bank. The format will be the usual mix of songs, sketches, poems and dances all celebrating the Great British Weather.

Julia ran through Act 1 playing recordings of the songs and asking cast members to read out the poems and sketches. I even got to read a part in a sketch about a trio of hapless weather forecasters.

After than mandatory coffee / tea and cake break, it was time for another quiz - this time identifying songs from famous musicals. I did even worse the second time round, only scoring a paltry 3.5 out of 10. Once Julia had run through Act 2, we concluded the evening with a sing-along to two of the numbers from the show.

Tickets on on sale on Sunday 30th April from www.ticketsource.co.uk/lvp. There are two performances at 2:30pm on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th July, so if you want to be ahead of the game look out for communications from LVP and get your tickets early!
